Island Hopping Around Langkawi by Speedboat

Picture
This is a cheap and cheerful option when it comes to speedboat rides around Langkawi. You start your cruise at the beach front on Tengah Beach. The boat is an explorer style speedboat, fiberglass with seating for between 8 and 12 people. There are of course life jackets on board just in case you need them and passengers must wear them while they are underway. The boat travels at speeds of around 25 knots and if the waves are choppy you can find it a bit bumpy, especially at the front.

You go first to Beras Besar Island with its wide creamy sand beach. In peak season there can be quite a few people on the beach. There are water sports available, with parascending topping the list and there is also some snorkeling, although really very limited. You can hire the snorkeling kit from the beach boys for around RM 15.  The speed boat then goes to Singa Besar to watch eagles being fed, before moving on the the Lake of the Pregnant Maiden.

Here following a short walk up some steps you come to a fresh water lake. Its great to take the heat off the day by plunging into its waters. Its around the size of a couple of football fields and despite its inky, blackness there is no fabled monster lurking in its depths. You can hire a pedalo and go for a paddle and there is a small gift shop to buy refreshments,

All in all the speed boat tour of Langkawi's Southern Islands takes around 3 hours and costs RM 60 per head including transfers
